Hotel America, Montevideo

My stay at the hotel was overall quite pleasant. The room was comfortable with all the necessary amenities like a big screen TV, air conditioning, minibar, and tea/coffee making facilities. However, it would have been more convenient if they had provided an extra key for the room as we were two guests and were asked to leave the key at the front desk when going out. The room needed a thorough cleaning between guests, but it served its purpose well.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was equipped with air conditioning, a TV, all necessary furniture, and a clean bathroom, making it very comfortable. Just be aware that if you request a street-facing room, you might experience some noise. The staff, especially Waldo, provided fantastic service, even helping us navigate a car rental glitch with our limited Spanish skills. The location was perfect for exploring downtown Montevideo, with everything I needed for a short stay within walking distance, including a variety of local restaurants. I was also delighted to find several English-speaking TV channels in the room. The dining options were okay but limited in selection. The facilities were well-maintained, offering a good value for the price.

The hotel's rooms were quite disappointing due to being very noisy with windows that don't close, small and lacking natural light, and facing a busy main road. On the positive side, the rooms were clean. The service showed a mix of being pleasant and helpful while also being indifferent and ignoring mistakes. The location is rated highly for being close to major attractions, restaurants, and in the lively center of Montevideo. Dining options were average. Despite the negatives, the price may offer some value for money.
